Eleven innovative projects from nine countries and two semi-independent regions have been short listed for the 2019 Ockenden International Prizes.
The four annual prizes are worth £25,000 each and will be announced in London at the end of March.

 

The shortlisted organisations and their project themes are:

Fundación Casa Alianza México, Mexico – child migrant safety

COBURWAS International Youth Organization to Transform Africa (CIYOTA), Uganda – youth education and empowerment

Find A Better Way, Jordan – peer-to-peer training and support for disabled Syrian refugees

Five One Labs, Iraqi Kurdistan – business start-up support

Geutanyoe Foundation, Malaysia – home schooling literacy for Rohingya women and girls

Hand in Hand for Aid and Development (HIFAD), UK – midwifery training in Idlib, Syria

HealthRight International, USA – unaccompanied migrant children’s protection and health, New York

Hotline for Refugees and Migrants, for stopping the deportation of refugees from Israel

Samos Volunteers, Greece – multiple self-help projects supporting the psychosocial health of refugees waiting for their asylum applications to be processed

Somaliland Youth Development and Voluntary Organization (SOYDAVO), autonomous region of Somaliland – Integration for Yemeni refugees and re-integration for Somali returnees

Unite Lebanon Youth Project (ULYP), Lebanon – Change starts with education: improving academic and economic prospects for young Syrian refugees
