Press release from Casa Alianza Honduras on the execution of Mario Suárez and Gerson Meza, young students from the Technical Institute of Honduras who were kidnapped, tortured and arbitrarily executed on 29th August 2018 at the hands of people who wore clothing purporting to be from the state agency – ATIC Research Technical Agency.

  • We stand in solidarity with the Meza family and the Suárez family in the face of this tragedy and irreparable loss as with the thousands of Honduran families to whom, both criminal and state violence have affected their whole lives.
  • We denounce that this horrible crime was executed as a result of legitimate protests and

student demands, which were also repressed with disproportionate use of force

  • It is macabrely symbolic that the bodies of the young students appeared in the place called “La Montañita”, a place used in the era of terror of the 80s, where the death squads, under the command of the Army, launched the corpses of activists critical of the regime.
  • Although we admit that there was quickly a Government reaction, due to videos broadcast on social networks, it is regrettable the hasty attitude with which some state officials prematurely denied that those responsible were agents /state officials responsible for the horrendous crime, without a scientific investigation to back up their comments. Unfortunately, this type of reaction gives the impression that they are more worried about cleaning up their image than to get to the bottom of the facts or for justice to be done

In light of these executions we ask:

  • Put an end to arbitrary executions in the country.
  • Judiciary and allow them to protect the lives of girls and boys and young people and to maintain healthy state institutions.Carry out an exhaustive investigation that will take those truly responsible before the
  • Establish mechanisms to guarantee non-repetition and repair.Open encouragement to Honduran children, youth and families so that they see there is hope of building a homeland committed to the rights of Honduran children.
  • We appreciate the support and accompaniment of the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights in the country, the manifestations of the National Commissioner of Human Rights, and media.
  • In the same way, we encourage national and international organisations who work with children, to demonstrate and accompany this process of research in order to build a homeland friendly with childhood, today absent.

Ante el secuestro, tortura y ejecución arbitraria de dos estudiantes a manos de sujetos que usaban indumentaria de la Agencia Tecnica de Investigación ATIC

 a la opinión pública nacional e internacional manifiesta:

  • Nos solidarizamos con la familia Meza y la Familia Suárez ante esta tragedia y pérdida irreparable, al igual que con las miles de familia hondureñas a quienes, tanto la violencia criminal como la violencia estatal, han llenado de
  • Enérgicamente condenamos la ejecución arbitraria de los jóvenes Mario Suárez y Gerson Meza, el pasado 29 de agosto, después de ser torturados y secuestrados de su casa por personas que portaban indumentaria y armamento de agencias
  • Denunciamos que este horrible crimen se ejecutó en una coyuntura de protestas y exigencias estudiantiles, que fueron también reprimidas con uso desproporcionado de la
  • Es macabramente simbólico que los cuerpos de los jóvenes estudiantes aparecieran en el lugar denominado “La Montañita”, lugar utilizado en la época de terror de los años 80, en donde los escuadrones de la muerte, bajo el mando del Ejército, lanzaban los cadáveres de activistas críticos al régimen.
  • Aunque admitimos que rápidamente hubo una reacción gubernamental debido a un video difundido en redes sociales, es lamentable la actitud apresurada con que algunos funcionarios estatales salieron de forma prematura a negar que fuesen agentes estatales los responsables del horrendo hecho, sin una investigación científica que lo respalde; desafortunadamente este tipo de reacciones da la impresión de que están más preocupados de limpiar su imagen que de llegar al fondo de los hechos y que se haga justicia.

Ante estas ejecuciones pedimos:

  • Poner un alto a las ejecuciones arbitrarias en el país.
  • Realizar una exhaustiva investigación que lleve a los verdaderos responsables ante la justicia y permita tanto proteger la vida de las niñas, niños y jóvenes como mantener instituciones estatales
  • Establecer mecanismos para garantizar la no repetición y la reparación.
  • Vaya nuestro aliento a la niñez, juventud y familia hondureña para que no se desfallezca ni se pierda la esperanza de construir una patria comprometida con los derechos de la niñez hondureña.
  • Agradecemos el apoyo y acompañamiento de la Oficina del alto Comisionado de los Derechos Humanos en el país, las manifestaciones del Comisionado Nacional de Derechos Humanos, y medios de comunicación.
  • De la misma manera, animamos a las organizaciones nacionales e internacionales que trabajan con la niñez, a manifestarse y a acompañar este proceso de investigación en aras a construir una patria amigable con la niñez, hoy
